Editors note: The Pittsburgh Standard does not adhere to gambling or betting. I present this game to you to have fun and challenge yourself to know different teams in the NCAA as March approaches. The best way to do that is finding out about the teams and challenging yourself to predict winners based on the teams and anticipating upsets can happen. Even though I am playing the game, I will excuse myself from being the final winner.

Introduction:

Welcome to PS Predictors Jam where you get to predict winners of 10 NCAA games each week. There is no fee to enter.

Every week one or more Pitt students may get eliminated from moving into the next round. Three to nine students could get immunity each week depending on a consistent formula.

In the end, only 1 will remain standing as the winner. The winner will then get a surprise offer.

Will you be the one that gets jammed into the elimination pool or will you be the one that jams on to become the winner?

Find out each week as you pit yourself against 38 or more of your peer Pitt students which include three teams who will try to outwit your predictions.

Rules:

Those of you who are already participating will receive a list of 10 NCAA games each week. They need to be turned in 2 days prior to the next Pitt game. All games you predict will fall on the same day of the Pitt games. For example, the next entries will be due January 30, 2003 for the February, 01, 2003 games.

If the deadline is missed, it is possible that could automatically disqualify you from contention because your score could plummet down.

You will accumulate 10 percent for each prediction that is correct. The individual or team with the lowest percentage each week will be eliminated from the pool of contestants unless their cumulative winning percentage is 70% or above.

It is possible that no one gets eliminated from the pool each week if the cumulative percentage is 70% or higher. In March before conference tourneys begin, tie breakers will be based on Big East games. Also, the percentage to remain in the contest will be incremented by 5% every week added on to the 70%.

All 39 contestants including team members will be ranked after January 25, 2003. Those in the top 10 will receive bonus percentage points added to their score.

Anyone can continue to enter the contest each week but the stakes will be higher. As each week goes by your percentage will be divided by the number of weeks that have gone by to make it fair for people who have been playing longer. For example, if you participate in the third week and make 100%, your percentage will still be only 33%.

That’s up to you to join! Who knows, you maybe so good that you can still outwit students who have been playing longer.
