“Christ Offers Message Powerfully Everyday Leading! (C.O.M.P.E.L)

SCRIPTURE:
"At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert, and he was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.” (Mark 1:12-13, NIV)

Observations:
I asked myself in whose COMPANY Jesus was according to v.12?

  1. The Spirit

  2. Satan

  3. Wild Animals

  4. Angels

Observations/Interpretations:
I asked myself what role each played and the significance?

Point 1: The Spirit

I found it very interesting that right after the voice told Jesus, ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased’, 'At once the Spirit sent him out into the desert.'

This is very significant for me because what came to my mind is before the Spirit sent Jesus into the desert; He was built up with love and support, after being acknowledged as His Son, by the Voice. Right after being baptized, Jesus could have been sent to the desert but He was not. Instead, He was built up first with love and support and compelled to go into the desert.

To be continued.....

Implications:
I saw important implications for my own life. Before compelling  us to go anywhere, I strongly believe and know that the Spirit of the Living God will equip, empower, and enable us with as much support as possible just as Jesus was supported before sending Him into the desert. We need to be open to the Spirit's leading.

I ask you now dear friend, where does the Spirit compel you to go?
Dear friend, if you are a follower of Christ, the Lord will compel you to go to places that maybe you never expected. Don't shrug away the opportunity but go out into faith knowing that the Lord who loves you, who leads you, and lights your path will be the same God who will equip you, empower you, and enable you to do His will. Go out in faith with the Lord's help. He will take you to places you have not dreamed of.

Years ago, when I attended a Harvest Conference sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, I felt compelled to share with hundreds of students, staff, and faculty what the Lord Jesus was teaching me in my Quiet Times as I studied and meditated on God's Word. It is being obedient to that calling, that I started writing the devotionals in email and sending it out in distribution lists with the option of unsubscribing. Now, I still feel compelled to share what the Lord Jesus has been teaching me but I use facebook and Pittsburgh Standard now. I have seen lives changed and transformed by the power of the Living God as others have read these devotionals. Few have even given their lives to Christ for the first time. Sadly, I have not always been faithful in sharing what I learned but every time I share, I am so excited to share the love of Christ and the principles for our lives as I learn them first myself.

The Lord Jesus gave me a signature verse to motivate me in sharing His love with others through His Word: "But life is worth nothing to me unless I use it to tell others about God's mighty goodness and love!" (Acts 20:24)

When you follow the Lord's leading, you will be surprised where He will take you. While I was in India this past summer with my sweet wife Chandra, she and I felt compelled to go to a church nearby our place. We had never stepped foot there but as we were travelling one Sunday morning, we heard worship songs emanating from there and decided to go there. She got right into the worship and started singing praises to the Lord. Pastor Vempati and the leadership heard her voice and asked her if she could lead the congregation in worship . Since that day, every time she went to the church, she became a blessing to the brothers and sisters there. Pastor Vempati would call ahead of time to see if she could make it that week to lead the congregation in worship. This would not have happened if we did not go that day when we felt compelled to go there. This would not also have happened if she did not feel compelled by the Spirit to use her gifting for the edification of the church body.

It is through going to that church that my wife's police clearance certificate came through too because the pastor knew a sister in Christ who worked there to help us regarding the 4-month delayed passport that was sent to the wrong address. The Lord used their prayers and the help of a sister and brother in Christ to address the issue. Thank you Jesus.

When I also think about compel, I am reminded of Tom Grosh IV, my brother in Christ who works for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. His prayer letter is rightly named 'Christ Compels'. Ministry or whatever we do should happen only when the Lord compels. It is then that we will be fruitful rather than going our own way. Help us Oh Lord Jesus! Amen!

Friend, wherever the Lord is compelling you to go, go in faith. But, before you go make sure it is from the Lord and not your own wishes and ideas of what you want to see happen. Many times we can be mislead into thinking our own ideas are where the Lord is taking us if we are not in prayer, studying God's Word, and in fellowship with other believers. For the Lord uses different means to communicate with us where He compels us to go. Let us do it in faith knowing whatever the situation we are led into, we will be equipped, empowered, and enabled when we seek the Lord in prayer.

May you rest in the Lord Jesus and go where the Spirit compels you to go! Amen!

"Christ Offers Message Powerfully Everyday Leading! (C.O.M.P.E.L)"/"Where does the Spirit compel you to go?"

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, please guide us and lead us Oh Lord. Thank you so much Jesus when the Spirit compelled you to go into the desert, you went after being baptized by John, the Baptist. Thanks so much I learned how much you were built up by Father God before being sent into the desert. Oh Lord Jesus, you do compel us to do things for the Kingdom but we have not always abided by what you have asked us to do or where you want us to go. Forgive us and help us Oh Lord for the glory and honor of your Name. Guide us and lead us that we may serve you faithfully. Thank you so much Jesus. Thank you Lord when you do compel us to do things for your Honor and Glory, you will equip, empower, and enable us to do your will. Help us to be open to your leading. Thanks so much Jesus. I pray for those who do not know you yet as their Lord and Personal Savior. Please Oh Lord lead them to you. Thanks so much Jesus. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!
