“PS Review: Out Of A Far Country
Kristen Agnew-Lippert
Subtitled "A gay son's journey to God; A broken mother's
search for hope," Out Of A Far Country describes the
intersecting journeys of two people struggling to understand and
accept the other. His mother Angela experiences depression and grief, followed by a renewed faith that helps her learn to love her son. The authors honestly describe their memories and emotions in a way that pierces the reader's preconceptions about family, culture and sexuality. Encounters with both justice and grace reveal the heart of God for His children. Personally, I felt inspired to reconsider my own sense of identity in light of Christopher's interpretation of the Bible. I am grateful for this glimpse into an experience so different from my own, yet so similar in our searches for meaningful healing relationships. The book spans eight years of the Yuans' lives in short, compelling chapters written either by Christopher or Angela. A "Where Are They Now?" epilogue is followed by a thorough discussion guide, for those wishing to read and digest the story with others.
