Lord Inspires Forever Eternity! (L.I.F.E)”

By Ramesh C.Reddy
Pittsburgh Standard

June 17, 2009

Editors Note: The devotional has a background song  which can be heard if you use Internet Explorer.

SCRIPTURE:
"For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father's glory with the holy angels."" (Mark 8:35-38, NIV)

OBSERVATION:
I asked myself what are the components of the promise Jesus gives in v.35?
1. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it.
2. But whoever loses his life for me will save it.
3. And whoever loses his life for the gospel will save it.

INTERPRETATION:
I asked myself what is  the significance of Jesus' promise in v.35?
As I read this verse over and over again and saw it in its context, it occurred to me that Jesus is talking about the persecution that will come when we follow Jesus. Jesus made sure to address the 'cost of following Jesus' before addressing persecution. Jesus is alluding to the fact that our lives could be in danger when we choose to follow Christ. The danger could come in the form of death to our lives, death to our status we hold, etc. Yet, Jesus does not want us to focus on saving our life when we decide to deny ourselves, pick up our cross, and follow Him. Because when we decide to save our lives in place of Christ being our Eternal Life, we put ourselves in danger of adhering to the world's standards and ways.

Jesus gives the alternative which is to see the cost of following Him and be willing to give ourselves up that we may gain our life His way by the promise:
"But whoever loses his life for me will save it"

Jesus does not stop there but puts an emphasis on the Gospel too. Jesus knows His followers will be persecuted for following Him and for preaching the Good News but this is the path Jesus wants His followers to go. This is evidenced by the promise: "And whoever loses his life for the gospel will save it."

Jesus wanted the disciples and crowds to do more than just giving their lives to follow Him but also giving their lives to preach the Gospel. Jesus wanted the disciples and crowds to know the life Jesus is talking about is Eternal Life and the life of the soul.

(To be continued)

IMPLICATIONS:
I saw important implications for my own life here. If I want to save my life from persecution and therefore stop following Jesus, I will lose my life anyway because life to Jesus is beyond this earthly life. I believe Jesus is talking about Eternal Life. Jesus knows when I choose to follow Jesus in this life, I will face danger in the form of persecution whether it be the persecution of death, the persecution of reputation, the loss of status according to the world's standard's, the loss of friends, etc. But, Jesus does not want me to try to salvage my life here on earth in place of what Jesus alone can offer me.

Being in the world it can be easy to want things of the world and compartmentalize my faith but I know I should not do that even if it means all kinds of persecution. I should not want to save my life but give it up because it does not belong to me anyway. My life belongs to my Creator, the Author and Finisher of my Life who has the patent and copyright.

When I try to save my life from persecution by not doing what Jesus wants me to do then I am giving into my own ways out of fear of losing things in my life. Jesus wants me to get beyond that. Also, Jesus does not want me to follow Him just passively but actively. To Jesus following Him is only the beginning but He wants me to go beyond following Him to preaching the Gospel which is evidenced by "For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it."

So, I should not live my life for myself but all the days of my life should be lived for Jesus and His ways.

HOW GOSPEL GIVES ME TESTIMONY REGARDING L.I.F.E:

People wonder and ask me what am I doing in the Food Service business working for Sodexo when I have degrees in Psychology (3.12),  Administration of Justice (3.85), a major in Legal Studies (4.0), with minors in Computer Science (3.0), Math (3.0), and in Business Management (3.85) but my answer has always been the same: I will stay there as long as the Lord Jesus wants me there because I see the place I am at as a means to minister to the souls the Lord Jesus brings my way. I want my life for Christ to be reflected in the ministry I do for Him wherever I am placed at.

I am so thankful that Jesus has given me ample opportunities to share the Gospel with students in this life, pray for students in this life, and care for them in this life. One of the ways I have shared the Gospel is through these devotions that I post at http://www.pittsburghstandard.com  and http://www.facebook.com that many students get exposed to especially all the friends I make being in food service serving them.  Also, I create sample exams online with Bible verses embedded in them to help students prepare well. The key in all this is because I want all to want the life of Jesus  to permeate their own lives. I want Jesus to be the central part of my life and everyone else's. I have learned to be content and be thankful with what Jesus provides for me for 'My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus!'

I tell them that I wanted to go to law school but then felt called to become a staff worker with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh engaging the campus in all its ethnic diversity with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After that everything became history or His Story.  I felt called into the ministry and continue to do ministry to this day even though I am not with IVCF for the time being.

There are times I wish I were rich but God knows what I go through at times and does comfort me from His Word. One morning God showed me His Word from Proverbs 22 that lifted me up a lot.

To be held in loving esteem is better than silver and gold! (Proverbs 22:1)

It is not always easy but I am so thankful for those Jesus placed in my life to make a difference. Praise the Lord! I realized I can go on in life doing my own things for my own pleasure but then the day will come when I will leave this earth and there won't be anything to show for it when I live only for myself. Earthly gain will be forgotten but the lives we touch will be remembered forever especially when we do it in the Name of Jesus. You can do that with your life.

I ask you now dear friend, what do you do with your life that makes a difference?
Dear friend, your life may mean a lot to you or it many not mean much to you but if your life means a lot to you because of your selfish ambition, accomplishments and accolades then in reality it will not mean much to you in the end. The life you worked so hard for will become crumbles and be nothing. Jesus knows that of our lives that whatever we try to accomplish under the Sun without the Son will turn out to be meaningless.

King Solomon understood that too when he later wrote the Book of Ecclesiastes. Friend, what matters in the end is whether we have been willing to lose our lives for the sake of Jesus and the Gospel to make a difference in other people's lives. Losing our lives does not necessarily have to be in terms of death and dying physically but losing our lives can also mean dying to ourselves and becoming alive in Christ.

If we want to save our lives and what we have on our own, we will lose it but if we give up our lives for the sake of the Kingdom of God, we will gain it. That is so exciting to know friend that when we turn to Jesus and love Him, the life we have will make us happy and exciting to live even if it means we don't have fortune or fame.

In my own life, I have come to realize that all my 'A' grades, degrees, majors, and minors mean nothing if they cannot be used to advance the Kingdom of God in this world and make a difference. Help me Jesus.

As I read through the entire Word of God in 33 days from Genesis to Revelation, Jesus gave me a signature verse that makes me happy and confident that I am where I should be in life and doing what I should be doing which is following Jesus with my life and preaching the Gospel in life even though many of my friends wonder what I am doing on Pitt campus all these years with my degrees, etc.

The signature verse I want to live by is Acts 20:24 which states, "But life is worth nothing to me unless I use it to do the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus, the work of telling others about God's mighty goodness and love"

That is why I love to stay on the University of Pittsburgh campus and use my job on the management team of Sodexo, http://www.pittsburghstandard.com, my classes I take, and facebook as a means to ministry to reach the younger souls with the Gospel of Jesus Christ showing them the love of Christ through my words and deeds.

When we decide to follow Jesus, Jesus gives each of us a calling that is different from another person's calling. My calling has been to follow Acts 20:24 on the University of Pittsburgh campus so I do that with the Lord's help.

Whatever Jesus has called you to  do, follow after that because He knows what He is talking about. So dear friend, don't let the world control you and influence you to live for it but live for the One who gave Himself for the world. Friend, Jesus Christ loves you so much that He gave up His own life for you that you may experience Eternal Life when the Lord brings you home and Abundant Life here on earth before going home to Heaven.

Yes friend, when we give up our lives for the sake of the Kingdom of God, we will experience abundant life. It starts with acknowledging that we are sinners in need of a Savior.

For me that started with acknowledging what a sinner I have been, confessing all my sin, repenting of all my sin at the foot of the cross,  believing that Jesus who had no sin became sin for me and absorbed all my sin so I can become the righteousness of God as long as I take the reddest purest antidote made by His crucifixion.  I did just that asking Jesus Christ to cleanse me with His precious cleansing blood so that I can be made whiter than snow.  We all need that because of our sinful condition that He alone can cure.

I am reminded even though our sins are scarlet red, He can make us white as wool and even though our sins are crimson red, He can make us white as freshly fallen snow.

So, I asked Jesus to now come into my heart and vacuum my heart using His precious cleansing blood as the heart shampoo to clean out all the yuckiness, dirt, and wickedness caused by the deadly virus known as sin. I asked Jesus to continue to live in my heart and make my heart His home so He can be my Savior and my Lord. I told Jesus that I will live for Him and serve Him the rest of the days of  my life as He helps me.

Friend, I don't know what you are going through in your life right now but Jesus knows. Jesus knows everything about you and wants you to come to Him as you are in your life and allow Him to transform and change you. You are precious and special in the Lord's sight. You are never out of His love or never out of His reach. There is nothing you and I can do to earn His love and grace for He has given it freely to us because that is how much He loves us. When the Creator of the Universe loves us, we can be confident that He will take care of us, leading us  and guiding us. That is exciting to know friend. This life of ours the Lord Jesus can take and make it special.

LIFE

© 2009, By Ramesh C. Reddy

Where is this generation headed,

can we say we know ?

Are we doing what is right,

doing what God wants us to do ?

What happened to shows like the beaver ?

Shame to seem him gone,

gone with the wind,

having all his morals and values

dried up like sun-baked clay.

Now are we battered, bruised, and burned

seeing shows depicting immorality causing restlessness

like pain in the back ?

Are we going to a shrink ?

What good will that do ?

It will only shrink our pockets

as our minds get shrunk

like delicate fabric

in improper washing.

What happens to our sanity

as our anxiety rages

like thundering sea waves ?

We want to know answers,

answers to the questions of life.

Do we end up in our self-world

dreading in despair,

despair that brings us to the edge

like an uncontrolled automobile

about to fall off the edge of a cliff.

We have our own hopeless life to live,

life that seems to end in misery.

Where does our hope come from,

hope that can lead us to a blessed life,

life that brings us perfect peace ?

We can only have true contentment,

contentment in our hearts,

only if we find peace,

peace that will end strife

when we come to know the

PRINCE OF PEACE

Who is this Prince of Peace ??

J esus, the Savior of the world.

E verlasting peace comes from knowing him.

S urely goodness and mercy will follow

U nconditionally all the days of our lives

S trengthening us to do what God wants us to do.

May you know Lord inspires forever eternity!

“If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” (Romans 14:8)

"Lord Inspires Forever Eternity! (L.I.F.E)"/"What do you do with your L.I.F.E that makes a difference?"

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for speaking about life. Oh Lord, you are the Source of our life here on earth. You are the Source of our Eternal Life. Help us Oh Lord to endure through the persecutions that come our way when we decide to follow you for they will come. Help us not to try to save our lives for selfish reasons but give our lives up for your Kingdom's sake by the way we live that we may be obedient to your command in Romans 12:1-2 to offer our lives as a pleasing sacrifice and holy, the kind you can accept. Thank you Jesus. Thanks for loving us so much and coming back to life to save us when you died on the cross shedding your precious cleaning blood, was buried, and came back on the 3rd day to save. I love you Lord. Help me to live my life for you and your Kingdom's sake. I pray right now for the One who is suffering right now that you would comfort them and they can turn their life over to you and to the usage of your plan. Thank you so much Jesus. Thank you for hearing us and answering us! In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!

May you experience the POWER OF CHRIST'S RESURRECTION this day, and give Him the LOCKED areas of your life too so you can experience His PEACE as you become an ACTOR in the film called LIFE being directed by your DIRECTOR, JESUS CHRIST who comes to give JOY and PEACE.

You don't have to be locked away anymore for Christ is here to free you and give you peace to live out your actions.

How do you look at GODISNOWHERE?

One of my pastors, Pastor Hugo SHARED this example one Sunday at the RESURRECTION DAY SERVICE in the combined worship service of Pittsburgh Chinese Church-Oakland & Oakland International Fellowship:

If you look at it as GOD IS NO WHERE, you will still be lost in your sin and be in bondage locked away in your sins and problems finding no peace.

But  as my pastor spoke to the congregation and spoke to me, I am here to tell you that GOD IS NOW HERE.

Yes, friend God is alive and wants to bring a transformation in your life through the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ for He paid the penalty on the cross to rescue you and me and came back to life to save us and live with us.

Yes, friend that is exciting to know that we can experience HIS SAVING GRACE & LIVING GRACE.

When we mess up, we can go to Jesus with our shortcomings and He will forgive us and RESTORE us to Him and we will find peace in Him.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." (Colossians 5:17-21, NIV)

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23, NIV)

"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:7-9, NIV)

Friend, we need Jesus because we have been separated from God due to our sin. Because of our sin, Jesus had to pay the price to become our bridge so we can reach God now not of our own good works but because of the finished work of Christ, the Lord on the cross.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV)

Come to Jesus as you are and pray this prayer to accept Jesus as your Lord and Personal Savior. He will transform your life around! Praise the Lord! You don't have to have all the answers! You can come as you are!

Prayer:
Jesus, I thank you for being the BREAD of Life. You are the Living BREAD of my life. Thank you for coming from Heaven and giving your life for the life of the world. You sacrificed yourself for humanity. Thank you Lord when we eat of you symbolically making you part of our life, digesting what you teach us by following you, we can be living Eternally, and the fruit that comes will reflect and resemble your life. I want that Father God. I want that Lord Jesus! I want that Holy Spirit! I know of a lot of people who partake of Holy Communion where the BREAD represents your body broken for their sin and the juice represents your blood shed for their sin. When we partake of Holy Communion, we are reminded that we are remembering you. I want to remember you always Lord Jesus. But for me to remember you always, I need to know you and acknowledge everything you said you are. So right now I acknowledge that you are my Lord and Personal Savior who died and rose again to give me life from sin. So right now, I come to you and say how sorry I am for my sin and living a life on my own. I repent of my sin and ask you to forgive me of my sin with your cleansing blood which I accept. Wash me and I will be clean from this infection of sin. Come Lord Jesus and please become part of my life as you live in me and I will live for you. I thank you Jesus for coming into my heart and making my heart your home. Thank you for living in me Jesus and I will live for you and serve you the rest of the days of my life. I do need your Spirit to reside in me and work in me and through me so I surrender all that I am and will be to you. Whatever your will is for me, please give me the strength and willingness to bear it and rejoice in you. Thank you so much Jesus. I thank you Jesus for becoming my Lord and Personal Savior. I thank you Jesus you have heard my prayer and have answered me. I thank you that I am your child Oh God. I thank you for becoming my only Way to Eternal Life. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!

No matter what you feel in your heart, know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel of John or Gospel of Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help! But beware of churches who do believe in the Word of God completely but there is no freedom in Christ but legalism involved.

As a professional, it is not too late to join a church! As a student, it is not too late to join a fellowship on campus this  new year of 2009! May the Lord's presence and peace fill you with His love now and forever! Amen!

Friend, if you have prayed this prayer and meant it in your heart, you are a new creation in Christ and all old things are passed away and everything has become new! You may feel something or may not but don’t base it on feelings but base your new life in Christ on the promises of our Savior who will never leave you nor forsake you! Amen!

Spend time in His word and let the Lord speak to you! Start out in the Gospel of John! You can also check out the Gospel of Mark which are the devotionals I have been going through.  Learn from Jesus through study and prayer. Also find yourself a church fellowship and a college fellowship you can be part of where you can be part of a community of believers to supplement your own walk with the Lord. Let it be a Bible-believing and Bible-breathing church! Believe in Bible Live Eternally!

Feel free to email me at reddy4hisglory2004@yahoo.com if you want to meet to study the Bible, pray with, talk about Spiritual issues or whatever is on your mind! My number is 412-720-4579
