“University Of Eternal Life: Part I: Admissions!”

ADMISSIONS:

I learned about a university called the University of Eternal Life! Admission into the University of Eternal Life was by grace through faith not of any good works that I did, so I cannot boast about my admission. The admission letter congratulating me was signed in BLOOD.

Before being admitted into the University of Eternal Life, I had to go through the application process essay which asked the question, ‘Why should We admit you into the University of Eternal Life?’

If I had answered, ‘Because of all the achievements I have accomplished in my life, all the good things I have done in life, etc, I would have failed then and there from getting an admission.

I realized that answer would not have gotten me in because I knew the standards of the University:

“No one is good, not one, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God!” (Romans 3:23)

“All your good works are like filthy rags to the Lord”

Then it occurred to me that my admission into the University has nothing to do with the good I think I do. So, I pondered about it and realized that the good I do does not take away from the bad I have done. If no one is good, not one, and all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, then my sin makes me fall short before a Holy God.  My good deeds cannot erase the bad I have done.

I cannot earn brownie points thinking that I did 2 bad things so I will do 3 good things to outweigh the bad, for it does not work that way. God is the Chancellor of the University and He in His Holiness cannot allow sin to enter into His presence.

Take a glass of pure milk for example:

If the glass is 99.9% pure milk but 0.9% of spit in it, would you still drink it?

Take a glass of pure water for example: If the glass is 99.9% pure water but you saw 0.9% of cyanide put in there, would you still drink it?

Take a white shirt for example: If the white shirt you have to wear for an interview has a black dot that you or the interviewer can see on the shirt, would you still wear it?

Why not?

Because of that dot! You may want to get TIDE to wash it out. Our good things can be seen as that white shirt, pure milk, pure water, etc but our sin is seen as the spit in God’s face, cyanide, or that black dot.

Now the wages of sin in my life is death but I also came to know that the gift of God is Eternal Life in Christ Jesus.

Knowing the following requirement and how it can be achieved excited me:

But now God has shown us a different way to heaven—not by “being good enough” and trying to keep his laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Scriptures told about it long ago). Now God says he will accept and acquit us—declare us “not guilty”—if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.  Yes, all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious ideal; yet now God declares us “not guilty” of offending him if we trust in Jesus Christ, who in his kindness freely takes away our sins.  For God sent Christ Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to end all God’s anger against us. He used Christ’s blood and our faith as the means of saving us from his wrath. (Romans 3:22-25, TLB)

It is then I realized that admission into the University of Eternal Life was dependent on me acknowledging what Jesus did for me and His love for me.

He who had no sin became sin for me that I may attain the righteousness of God.

God demonstrated His own love for me, while I was still a sinner , He sent Jesus to pay for my sin by His Blood.

But the Good News for me is that Jesus died and rose again to give me Eternal Life.

Now all I needed to do was three things to get acceptance into the University of Eternal Life: It is simple as ABC’s

A: Acknowledge B: Believe C: Confess

The good works flow from there out of a relationship with Christ for me J The following Scripture made such an impact in my life.

"For if you tell others with your own mouth that Jesus Christ is your Lord and believe in your own heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in his heart that a man becomes right with God; and with his mouth he tells others of his faith, confirming his salvation. For the Scriptures tell us that no one who believes in Christ will ever be disappointed. Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect: they all have the same Lord who generously gives his riches to all those who ask him for them.  Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:9-13, TLB)

So I knew now that I gained acceptance into the University of Eternal Life. But, it is not enough to just get accepted into the University. Now the time came for registration for classes.

To be continued.....
