Christ Offers Peace Everywhere! (C.O.P.E)”

Editors Note: This devotional was originally sent through email on October 27, 1998 at 11:37 a.m. to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) students and others who wanted to receive daily devotionals at the University of Pittsburgh! It is being republished on Pittsburgh Standard today.

SCRIPTURE:

"Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say on the Lord." (Psalm 27:14)

I ask you now dear friend, how do you C.O.P.E with your hurt?

When things are going wrong in our lives, we can be tempted to give in to the pain that surrounds us. Many times the hurts people face are really deep that they repress them to the point that they do not have to think about it. Unfortunately, that hurt can resurface at unexpected times and bring our life to a halt with painful memories. As long as we hold the hurts in, that hurt will eat us on the inside and trap us from enjoying the peace the Lord wants for us.

Jesus loves you so much and wants to bring healing to each one of you. I do not know each one of you and if you are dealing with any kind of hurt. But this I know, every hurt has a reason behind it that has to be dealt with without holding it in. Only the Lord can bring true healing and hope. This is what the Lord wants to do for you. If you ever feel unloved, remember Jesus loves you so much. He reaches out to you with His loving hands through the pain you maybe facing.

Whatever you are facing, the Lord wants you to wait upon Him.  Waiting is not always easy but it is worth it. Be of good courage and deal with the hurt you are facing. The Lord will send healing and strengthen your heart!

May each of you find the peace that you are looking for from Jesus, who wants to be our Lord and Personal Savior. May His wonderful promises bring us hope and healing through the hurts. Amen!

This song goes out to every one who is facing one hurt or another whether it is a relational hurt, an emotional hurt, etc. This was rewritten at a 'Harvest 98 conference' of IVCF. I made it into a prayer-like song for each of you to pray to the Lord through your hurts.

Song 1: 'For My Broken Heart'                                                                                     by Ramesh C. Reddy

For my broken heart

I have a crying soul

For my crying soul

I have an aching mind

What do you see Lord?

What do you hear Lord?

What do you feel Lord?

What do you say Lord?

You see my tearful drops of pain.

You hear my tearful drops of rain.

You feel the hotness of my tears.

You are here to say, "You will take my fears".

When I feel my stain is too much to bear

To give me a new heart, You are there.

At my pain, when I have to stare

To give me a new start, you send your loving care.

You want to be my loving Savior and Lord.

To give me strength through times that are hard.

Amen!

"Christ Offers Peace Everywhere! (C.O.P.E)"/"How do you C.O.P.E with your hurt?"

Prayer:  Dear Lord Jesus, you know each person and their hurts they face. You alone Oh Lord can continue to bring healing into their lives. Please Lord bring your healing into each persons' life who is hurting. Thank you Jesus.  Please Lord let them not feel that they have to go through any hurt they may face on their own but that you are there for them and please use each of us to help those who are hurting. Thank you so much Jesus. Thank you Jesus you hear us and answer us! I turn each person over to you and thank you that you will give them loving care! In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!

May the Lord Jesus guide you in His love leading you! Amen!

No matter what you feel in your heart, know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel of John or Gospel of Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help by His grace alone!
