“For Answers In The Heaven! (F.A.I.T.H)

Editors Note: This devotional was originally sent through email on Monday, November 03, 1998 at 12:23:25 p.m. to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) students and others who wanted to receive daily devotionals at the University of Pittsburgh while I was serving at IVCF! It is being republished on Pittsburgh Standard today.

SCRIPTURE:
"For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does." (Psalm 33:4)

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6)

A lot of things we are being taught in school can conflict with our beliefs and raise a lot of questions in our minds. Don't be afraid of the questions that are being raised concerning your faith. You will find that your faith will be challenged in geology classes, biology classes, religious studies classes, philosophy classes, etc. No matter what others tell you or want to make you believe, stand on the promises of God's Word.

At the same time when questions arise in your mind, try to find the answers for those questions. Ask the Lord for wisdom to get you through your classes. Remember that you are not the first Christian to be taking these classes. Those before you through the centuries have studied philosophy, religious studies, etc. The Christian faith is stronger than what your professors try to confuse you with.

I can speak with experience because I have challenged the most antagonistic professors in their views. Many professors do not expect students to challenge them but  with the Lord's grace, without fear, I have challenged them especially in philosophy classes.

No matter what your professors try to make you believe remember lies, heresy, etc can be made to sound like the truth depending on how persuasive a person tries to be. But lies and heresy will not prevail!

"By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into store houses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded and it stood firm." (Psalm 33:6-9)

I believe in the Word of God to be right and true and that God is faithful in all He does. I do not have answers to every question I have but the Lord reveals the answers in due time. He has done that and will continue to do that. So trust in the Lord, you who are His for His love endures forever and His promises never fail! Amen!

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1)

Here is something to think about. Some of you may have already heard this. Jonathan shared this with us last week at fellowship. I will write it as best as I remember and add a variation to it.

A professor in a philosophy class asked his students, 'Have you seen God?, Have you touched God?, Have you heard God?. No one answered the professor with an 'Yes' so he said, "You see there is no God" Then one of the students posed a question to the entire class in front of the professor: "Have you seen the professors' heart?, Have you heard the professors' heart?, Have you touched the professors heart?" The student posed the same question concerning the professors brain. The students in the class did not answer 'Yes'. So the student looks at all the other students and applies the professors reasoning and says, "You see our professor has no heart and no brain."

Just because we do not see God, touch God, or hear God does not mean God is not there. God will reveal himself to us when we seek Him whole heartedly.

I was so excited to be studying God's Word :)

"For Answers In The Heavens (F.A.I.T.H)"/"What will you do with F.A.I.T.H in your classes?"

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus we thank you that your Word is right and true and that you are faithful in all you do. Lord here on campus we face so many views that are opposing to your Word and your Truth. We ask you for help and endurance as we go through college life and that our faith can hold on in you. Thank you Jesus you are faithful and will help us. Even when we have questions we thank you that we can bring them before you and that you
answer us in due time. We turn our lives to thee and ask thee for thy guidance now and forever. Thank you that you hear us and answer us! In thy precious Holy Name we pray! Amen!

May the Lord Jesus guide you in His love leading you! Amen!

No matter what you feel in your heart, know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel of John or Gospel of Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help by His grace alone!

"This is my work and I can do it only because Christ's mighty energy is at work within me." (Colossians 1:29, TLB)
