God Reveals Eternal Emancipation Truly Imparting Nurturing, Gracious Salvation!” (G.R.E.E.T.I.N.G.S)

Ramesh C. Reddy
Publisher

SCRIPTURE:
The angel [Gabriel] went to her [Mary] and said, 'Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.' Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God.” (Luke 1:29-30, NIV)

APPROACH QUESTION:
When you meet a person, what is your first response?

OBSERVATIONS:
I asked myself what 5 things did the Angel Gabriel do?

1. The angel went to her [Mary].
2. The angel said, 'Greetings, you who are highly favored!
3.  The angel said, 'The Lord is with you.'
4.
The angel said, "Do not be afraid, Mary,
5.  The angel said, 'You have found favor with God.”

OBSERVATIONS:
I asked myself what can I learn about Mary?

  1. Mary was not just troubled but greatly troubled at his words.

  2. Mary wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

  3. Mary found favor with God

OBSERVATION:
I asked myself why was Mary greatly troubled?
Mary was greatly troubled at his [Angel Gabriel's] words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

INTERPRETATIONS:
I asked myself why did Mary wonder what kind of greeting this might be?

Angels were sent with different greetings to different people. Not knowing the meaning of the greeting alone greatly troubled her .

I asked myself what is the significance of the angel’s statements?
It is very significant that when Mary was greatly troubled, the angel not only told her, 'Do not to be afraid' but goes a step further. This is the first time we hear the angel Gabriel call Mary by name. Before that the angel had just appeared and given a message. Mary never introduced herself to the angel but the angel already knew her name. Now the angel calls her by name making the visit very personal and caring like. After that the angel says, 'You have found favor with God' ending the greetings with a blessing.

IMPLICATIONS:
I asked myself what are the implications for my own life?
When I give others greetings, it should always be personal and I should always use their name as much as possible taking into account culture too. Wherever I am, I try to greet people by their name if I know their name instead of just saying, 'Hi'.
We do not know what people are going through always but the Lord does. Greeting someone by their name adds that personal touch in their life and makes a person know they are recognized, special, loved, and not forgotten. Even when we forget someone, they are always remembered by the Lord and He gives them His special name. Even though I do not do full-time ministry as a profession, I try to know as many students names as possible when they come to eat in our dining facilities and call them by name.  Calling people by name is not just for the angels and God but for us too.

Parents have been blessed with the opportunity to name us. There is something special about calling people by their name in a greeting. When I was in full-time campus ministry with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, I made it a habit to know everyone’s name so when I greeted them it won’t just be ‘Hi,”.  I made it personal and that is what the angel decided to do.

I see my job as a ministry opportunity to reach as many people as possible with the love of Christ but for starters I do that by calling people by name when I greet them. From 2000 - 2008, I have taken it as a blessing to serve 100+ Pennsylvania Governor's School of International Studies[PGSIS] students and call them by their name.

Now my favorite is to greet my sweetie wife Chandraleela when she gets up in the morning and our precious 14 month 7 day daughter Esther by name. Thank you Jesus! Granted I give both of them an endearing name when I call them :)

There is something special about knowing people's names and greeting them by name. Anything God does, He usually sets an example for us.  It is a great example to call people by name to let them know they are special, recognized, and have value.

For me it is so special to know that the Lord Jesus loves me and calls me by name and that I am special and precious in His sight. He loves you so much too and calls you by name. His greeting to you is a greeting of love this Christmas season and onwards because the Gospel is all about greeting with a greeting of Salvation. That is what the Lord Jesus has offered me letting me know that I belong to Him when I accept all He has done for me at the Cross of Calvary. He paid the price that I could not pay so that I can be redeemed and always called by name. Thank you Jesus. He will do that for you too. All we need to do is give our lives to the Lord and accept His free gift of grace so we will be greeted with the presence of the Lord everyday. His free gift of grace frees us from the bondage of sin and death. We can accept Jesus as our Lord and Personal Savior and experience that each day. But our experience of knowing Christ will also permeate into the rest of our lives when it concerns greetings. I want that for me and want it for you too.

The Lord says, "Don't be afraid, for I have ransomed you; I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you, When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up---the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, your Savior, the Holy One of Israel." (Isaiah 43:1-3, TLB)

So, I ask you now dear friend, what can G.R.E.E.T.I.N.G.S do for you and others in life?
Dear friend, greetings rarely come blank but they usually come with a wonderful message behind them depending on the occasion at hand. These greetings can lift you up and help you lift others up. There is something special about greetings and hence the greeting card business by Hallmark is so awesome. Greetings are just greetings unless they are made personal. This is what the Angel Gabriel did for the Virgin Mary when the angel made it personal. This is what my precious wife Chandraleela did for me when she gave me a personal greeting card that read:

"To My Husband, God Wanted Us to Be Together. I believe with all my heart our love was meant to be.... I believe that our first kiss was as much a part of God's plan as the stars in the night sky.... And I believe that the life we share reflects His love day by day....I thank God for you with all my soul and love you with all my heart...I LOVE YOU KANNA! GOD BLESS YOU :)......."

That made me feel so much special to get such a touching greeting from my loving wife Chandra.

I remember how special students felt when I called them by name in my years of ministry and in dining services. They would be so happy saying, 'He knows my name, called me by name, and remembers my name'

How much more special it is to know that the Lord Jesus loves us so much and calls us by name. He knows our name and greets us with His precious love. Wow! That is so awesome to know! You can experience that with Christ in your life and be a blessing to others by greeting them by their name with a message of love.

This Christmas season, you have an opportunity when you greet people to make them feel loved, special, and cared for. Every greeting you give someone, it can be to acknowledge they are special and remembered. Remember we may not always know what a person is going through but we can be there to bring a smile to them by being a person who is willing to pray, care, and share with them what they are going through. It usually starts with a greeting.

Try to remember people’s name and greet them by name. Let your greeting bring a smile to the one you greet. If they are troubled, ask them why they are troubled and if they care to share, listen to them, and take the opportunity to tell them about the Lord Jesus and what He has done for them and what He wants to do.

Remember, the angel Gabriel did not just greet Mary but spoke to the Virgin Mary about the Lord and assured her everything will be ok in the Lord. So can you! You can be a blessing in someone’s life.

No matter what someone is going through this Christmas season whether it is the death of a loved one, a broken relationship, a lost job, etc, you can assure them that Jesus will be there for them to strengthen them. His love can be seen through each one of you as you live your life exemplifying Christ to those around you.

Remember for unto us a Savior has been born and His names are Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace!

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6, NIV)

“God Reveals Eternal Emancipation Truly Imparting Nurturing, Gracious Salvation!” (G.R.E.E.T.I.N.G.S)/"What can G.R.E.E.T.I.N.G.S do for you and others in life?"

Prayer:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for loving us so much and dying for our sin. Thank you for coming back to life to save us. Father God, thank you for sending Jesus to save us. Thank you for sending the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary and blessing her to have Jesus. We love you Father God. Thank you for your love. Thank you for calling us by name and we are special and precious in your sight. You tell us that we belong to you when we turn to you. Help us to be your voice, hands, and feet as we walk this earth and be a blessing to those around us. Help us Lord Jesus to make others feel loved, special, and precious. Thank you for the names you let us have. Thank you Jesus for Your Names and the power behind those Names of yours we can experience. May we bring you joy this season Oh Lord by the way we live our lives and bring others joy Oh Lord. Thank you so much Jesus. I pray right now for the one who feels abandoned Oh Lord for you know what that person is going through. They need your special touch in their lives to know that you call them by name, that they are precious and special in your sight no matter what they are going through. Help them know that you take all sin and cleanse them by your precious Blood. Thank you for greeting us by name and help us do the same to others.  Hear us and answer us Oh Lord please. Thank you so much for hearing us and answering us Oh Lord. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!

Lord Jesus, You are my all in all. You are my Prince of Peace, Rock, Savior, and Friend. You are my Holy Father guiding me through to live a life of righteousness, holy righteousness. Oh God, I need you more than ever. I need to feel your hands around me holding me tight. I need your love to surround me so that you can glow in my life. Help me please Jesus. I desire in your presence. Thank you for guiding me to live a life of righteousness. Oh God you love me more than ever. You hear my voice when I cry out to you. When I seek your face, you fill me up. You are my all in all. Thank you Jesus so much for your help no matter what I face, your grace is available and you take my case. Thank you for hearing us and answering us. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! AMEN! (Most of the prayer is from a vineyard song called “All in All”)

If you would like to invite Jesus Christ into your heart and make Him a daily part of your life, you can this very moment. You will never be alone. You can claim God's promises for you in the Bible and see them come true, before your eyes, in His wonderful timing. You don't have to wait for a special time to come to the Lord. You can come right now as you pray the prayer below, meaning it in your heart.

Prayer:
God I am a sinner. I am invaded by this deadliest virus. Many times I feel so guilty and yucky inside. I need forgiveness. I am so sorry for my sins. I have not obeyed you with my whole heart! I have gone my own way and done my own things. I  struggle with sin. I need you Jesus in my life so I can receive forgiveness and a new beginning. In the process, I can forgive others as you help me to. Thank you so much Jesus. I accept the antidote you have sent me. I believe Jesus you died for me and your cleansing blood will cleanse me from all my sins. You came back to life to save me. Thank you God I am set free, free from the bondage of sin. Hear my cry Oh Lord. I accept you Jesus into my heart. I make you my Lord and Personal Savior of my life. Thank you Father God for giving me Salvation. Thank you Jesus for coming into my heart and making my heart your home. Thank you for living in me Jesus and I will live for you and serve you the rest of the days of my life. Thank you for being my Lord and personal Savior! I can live a life of peace with you on my side. Thank you that you have heard my prayer and answered me! In your Name I Pray Jesus! AMEN!

No matter what you feel in your heart, know that Jesus has come in and resides with you! You are not alone! To make your walk strong with the Lord, spend time in prayer talking to Him as you would to a friend. You don’t need special words to talk to the Lord. Spend time in His Word reading Psalms and turning them into prayer. Next allow God to heal you and speak to you through the Gospel of John or Gospel of Mark before moving on to other Books of the Bible! Slowly, let the Lord show you to which Scriptures He wants you to go to next. It is also important to be part of a body of believers to help you grow in the faith. Find a Bible believing church that preaches the Word of God from Genesis to Revelation proclaiming Jesus Christ our crucified and risen Lord who brings us hope, healing, and help!

No matter who you are, it is not ever too late to join a Bible-believing church or a college fellowship. I highly encourage each of you to come to Transformers Small Group on Friday nights at 7:00 p.m. and Oakland International Fellowship on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. for prayer, 11:30 a.m. for worship, 10:30 a.m. for Sunday School, and 12:30 p.m. for fellowship lunch.

May the Lord's presence and peace fill you with His love now and forever! Amen!

Friend, if you have prayed this prayer and meant it in your heart, you are a new creation in Christ and all old things are passed away and everything has become new! You may feel something or may not but don’t base it on feelings but base your new life in Christ on the promises of our Savior who will never leave you nor forsake you! Amen!
