SPIRITUAL CONNECTIONS: SPOILER ALERT

Spoiler Alert I:
When rogue agents from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) find out that their Black Operations from the past are coming to light, they cannot withstand it and send assassins to eliminate anyone exposing their operation but those who want the truth come into the light and expose the darkness.

“This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.” (John 3:19-21, NIV)

Spoiler Alert II:
In another scene, Jason Bourne is seen talking to Parsons about how sorry he is for taking the life of his victims that he did not even know! He wished he could remember their names to make things right with their families.

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19, NIV)

Spoiler Alert III:
In another scene, we see Bourne being chased by an assassin until there is a crash. When Bourne comes face to face with the injured assassin, he does not shoot him but leaves. This showed me the heart of forgiveness in Bourne. In another scene, when the assassin has a gun pointed at him, this time the assassin does not shoot but lets him go.

“Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord. On the contrary: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” (Romans 12:17-21, NIV)

Spoiler Alert IV:
In a scene, Pamela Landy turns all the secret files over to be investigated even though she knows she could be killed.

“When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.” (Proverbs 21:15, NIV)

Spoiler Alert V:
In a scene towards the end, we see the bad guys deeds come to light what they did in the darkness.

"But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the LORD; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23, NIV)

Spoiler Alert VI:
We see Bourne jumping into the river and submerged in the water after finding out who he really was! Before that he helps the assassin sent to kill him change his ways. Everyone thinks Bourne is dead but in fact he becomes alive again. He grew up as a Catholic and his faith never left him even after he was brainwashed. The movie ends with Bourne swimming away to a new life.

“Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.” (Romans 6:3-5, NIV)

Questions to Ponder:
1. What makes Bourne feel guilty about all the things he has done including killings of people he cannot even remember?

2. Why do you think Bourne wants to find out his true identity? Does it matter who he was in the past? Why or why not?

3. Where is your identity in and what do identity and faith have in common?

4. People go to all lengths to hide secrets they do not want others to find out about including killings! Why do you think that is so and what would you do if you found out about a secret you are not supposed to know?

5. Is it ethical to reveal a secret that is found out even if it means committing treason against your country, why or why not?

6. What actually freed Bourne who was a prisoner in his mind and imprisoned those that were actually free?

7. What does it show us about Bourne when he actually tries to change the assassin that tried to kill him?
