Plot Summary:
The movie 'Replicant' deals with the serial killer 'The Torch' (played by Jean-Claude Van Dam). He kills mothers and torches them before authorities arrive. He is pursued by Jake Riley (Michael Rooker) who came close to him but could not as his retirement arrived. Riley is now recruited by the National Security and asked to take care of a genetic double Replicant (played by Jean-Claude Van Dam) they created to catch the real killer. The story revolves around Riley getting the help of the Replicant to replicate the 'Torches' move. As the movie progresses we are shown into the mind of the serial killer and what started him out.

Reddy's Review:
The movie is an action adventure, sci-fi thriller worth watching to see how the two persons in different circumstances and environment act towards those they are surrounded by. I really liked this movie because it showed me how a person's childhood affected his adult life. It also showed this same person as a genetic double who would not kill. The difference was the genetic double was raised by Riley who was told by his mom, 'if you treat someone like a criminal, they will act like a criminal'. The movie makes you think about issues such as creation, upbringing, family, abuse, and killing.

Biblical theme of upbringing:
In the movie, we see how 'The Torch' was raised and what happened to him when he grew up. We also see how 'The Replicant' was raised and what happened to him even when faced with evil influences outside his upbringing. Many times upbringing does play a major role in what people become. It can be positive or negative. We see both outcomes in the movie.

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." (Proverbs 22:6, NIV)

Biblical theme of creation:
In the movie, we see a human being made and the comment, "God created man in six days" but we take longer to create a Replicant. In life there are those who try to replicate God's creation using DNA, etc. The only problem is that God alone knows how to create us perfectly and not scientists.

"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." (Genesis 1:26-27, NIV)

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." (Psalm 139:13-14, NIV)

Questions to Ponder:
What do we learn about the characters upbringing and what were the outcomes to them and others?

What do you think about creation and how do you feel about cloning human beings?

What do we learn about family in this movie and what is family to you? Why or why not?

What are the kinds of abuse we see and what is the outcome? Do you know anyone going through abuse and if so how can you help them?
