Dig In Scripture To Answer Now Christ Everywhere!" (D.I.S.T.A.N.C.E)

By Ramesh C.Reddy

Editors Note: The devotional has a background song  which can be heard if you use Internet Explorer.

SCRIPTURE:
Since they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to him and said, "I have compassion for these people; they have already been with me three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way, because some of them have come a long distance." (Mark 8:1b-3, NIV)

Observations:
What statements does Jesus make to the disciples?

1.   I have compassion for these people.

2.   They have already been with me three days.

3.   They have nothing to eat.

4.   If I send them home hungry, they will collapse on the way.

5.   They have come a long distance.

I decided to look at statement 5 today:

Interpretations:
What is the significance of Jesus telling the disciples 'they have come a long distance?'
Jesus was making a point that the distance they came to see Him is so long that if they are sent back to their destination without anything to eat they will be hungry and collapse. Jesus did not want that. What stuck out to me was Jesus knowing the distance the crowds came from to see Him and the crowds desire to see him not letting distance come in the way.

Implications:
I saw important implications for my own life. The people came a long distance to see Jesus to be taught by Him, led by Him, and to be ministered to by Him and I need to do the same. I should not let distance of where I live, etc prevent me from going to the House of Worship to worship Christ the Lord. What is much more exciting is that Jesus is never far from me now. He will be as close to me as I allow Him to be. He will be right in my heart and His Spirit will lead me and guide me. I need to be focused on the Lord and let His Word minister to me in all facets of life whether it is academic, relational, political, religious, etc. Distance does not matter anymore to meet Jesus because we can meet Jesus right in His Word which will be near our heart as we open it and read it. That is what I desire to do to let His Word guide me and lead me..

I ask you now dear friend what distance will you go to meet Jesus?

Dear friend, if your concept of meeting Jesus is confined to a church building and place of worship then you have to make up your mind what distance you are willing to travel to meet Jesus. The people travelled a long distance to meet Jesus in person.

We cannot necessarily meet Jesus in person but we can meet Him at church, which is the body of Christ as long as that body of Christ exemplifies and follows evangelical biblical standards of doctrine.

This means I believe it will be hard to meet Jesus in a church that condones abortion, homosexuality, racism, etc or looks the other way. The body of Christ has to be in line with the Head of the church, Jesus Christ.

Jesus has never condoned abortion, homosexuality, racism, etc. Neither should we.

If we vote for a candidate that supports abortion, homosexuality, racism, etc, based on what we learn from the pulpit, we need to ask ourselves are we meeting Jesus at the right place of worship?

Sadly, this is what has happened in certain churches such as the church where Jeremiah Wright preached, the church where Fleegal preached, etc.

The distance we go to meet Jesus should be done to meet Jesus and not surrogates who think they are speaking on behalf of Jesus when they go against God's Word and say it is alright for so and so issues. Sadly, Barrack Obama alluded that the Sermon on the Mount is supportive of Gay Marriage! How preposterous and he wants the vote of Evangelical Christians and thinks he is reaching out to people of faith.

Travelling a distance to meet Jesus in His Word is admirable and so worthy. We in America do not have to deal with persecutions for our faith like those in many Islamic countries have to deal with, those in communist countries have to deal with, etc and yet the people's love for Jesus is so much that people travel miles to be part of a church that worships Christ in Word and deed.

The Bible is not just a book that becomes the Word of God or contains the Word of God to these people but is the Word of God. So since the Bible is the Word of God, majority of Evangelical Christians in this country or elsewhere know that homosexuality is an abomination in the sight of the Lord, abortion is the shedding of innocent blood, etc.

We need to be willing to travel so far to meet Jesus in a Bible believing and Bible applying church even if it is so far from our home. It is not good enough just to go to church for the sake of going if our presence at church is not to meet Jesus in His Holy Word. It is worth travelling 1 hour or more to find a church that is biblical in its message and exhorts its congregation members on the issues that matter to Christ than a church that condones any action.

God's Word is so clear about speaking against sexual immorality, abortion, racism, poor, etc and we need to start hearing these messages at church. I want to be part of a church that addresses these issues.

Sometimes we will have to be uncomfortable or face inconvenience but it is worth it for me.

Jesus does not just have to be met at church even though fellowshipping with like-minded believers is very important but Jesus can be met right in the vicinity of our home.

Yes, friend Jesus can be met right in your home as you open the Word of God and let God speak to you through His Word. Even as this election season comes ask the Lord Jesus to guide you and lead you. My hope is that you would put the issues of abortion and homosexuality at the forefront when you vote for a leader.

As a follower of Christ, you don't want to ever say to yourself, 'I put BHO in office who now nominated a Supreme Court justice who would legalize partial-birth abortion, who will make it ok for Planned Parenthood to get funding for abortions, who will make it ok for gay marriage to be legal across the land, etc.

The more time we spend in God's Word and allow Him to speak to us the more we will see the importance of the sanctity of life for the unborn, sanctity of marriage, etc. For that to happen we need to be close to Jesus and His teachings than far away. We cannot interpret them to mean what we want it to mean but God's Word is the same even now. Those that say this is the 21st century and God's Word does not apply now do not know the power of God's Word.

Not even comparable to politics or anything is our relationship with Christ. We need to be close to Christ to experience His sanctification in our lives. For that to happen we need to realize that on our own we are sinners doing works that are filthy rags to God (Psalm 53) apart from Christ. We need Christ and should not let the distance of anything stop us. Only Christ can deliver us from the bondage of sin as He covers us in His precious cleansing blood. We need to accept what Christ wants to give us and live our lives for Him and Him alone! Jesus died on the cross for you and me, was buried on the third day, and came back to life to save you and me.

Never let it be said that Jesus does not want to be involved in your life and does not care for who you vote for. That is far from the truth. Jesus does care who you and I vote for. I want to vote for a candidate that I feel is more in line with God's Word and does not interpret it corruptly to mean that the Sermon on the Mount supports Gay Marriage as BHO does.

May you always feel close in God's Word so whatever decisions you make will make you feel and know you are right with God as you test your decisions with God's Word.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord Jesus, thank you so much for caring for the people that gathered to hear you at the 3-day retreat. You knew when they were hungry and did not want to send them away after the retreat because they did not have anything to eat, would collapse on the way since they came a long distance. You decided to act. Thank you Lord that you act in our lives too. We turn our lives over to thee. Help us never to let distance come in the way of you and us to worship you at a Bible-believing and Bible-promoting church which is evangelical in its teachings. Oh Lord, thank you for dying for our sin, being buried, and coming back to life on the 3rd day to save us. Help us to be in your Word always and influence those around us in your Word. Thank you so much Jesus! In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!
!

If you want Christ in your life, make this your prayer. Don’t let the enemy deceive you into thinking you need all the answers before coming to Christ. Let me just assure you though you may not have all the answers right now before coming to Jesus, He will answer them slowly. Yes, He will for I know our Redeemer will! Amen!

Prayer:
Jesus, I thank you for being the Bread of Life. You are the Living Bread of my life. Thank you for coming from Heaven and giving your life for the life of the world. You sacrificed yourself for humanity. Thank you Lord when we eat of you symbolically making you part of our life, digesting what you teach us by following you, we can be living Eternally, and the fruit that comes will reflect and resemble your life. I want that Father God. I want that Lord Jesus! I want that Holy Spirit! I know of a lot of people who partake of Holy Communion where the bread represents your body broken for their sin and the juice represents your blood shed for their sin. When we partake of Holy Communion, we are reminded that we are remembering you. I want to remember you always Lord Jesus. But for me to remember you always, I need to know you and acknowledge everything you said you are. So right now I acknowledge that you are my Lord and Personal Savior who died and rose again to give me life from sin. So right now, I come to you and say how sorry I am for my sin and living a life on my own. I repent of my sin and ask you to forgive me of my sin with your cleansing blood which I accept. Wash me and I will be clean from this infection of sin. Come Lord Jesus and please become part of my life as you live in me and I will live for you. I thank you Jesus for coming into my heart and making my heart your home. Thank you for living in me Jesus and I will live for you and serve you the rest of the days of my life. I do need your Spirit to reside in me and work in me and through me so I surrender all that I am and will be to you. Whatever your will is for me, please give me the strength and willingness to bear it and rejoice in you. Thank you so much Jesus. I thank you Jesus for becoming my Lord and Personal Savior. I thank you Jesus you have heard my prayer and have answered me. I thank you that I am your child Oh God. I thank you for becoming my only Way to Eternal Life. In Your Name I Pray Jesus! Amen!

Friend, if you have prayed this prayer and meant it in your heart, you are a new creation in Christ and all old things are passed away and everything has become new! You may feel something or may not but don’t base it on feelings but base your new life in Christ on the promises of our Savior who will never leave you nor forsake you! Amen!

Spend time in His word and let the Lord speak to you! Start out in the Gospel of John! You can also check out the Gospel of Mark which are the devotionals I have been going through.  Learn from Jesus through study and prayer. Also find yourself a church fellowship and a college fellowship you can be part of where you can be part of a community of believers to supplement your own walk with the Lord. Let it be a Bible-believing and Bible-breathing church! Believe in Bible Live Eternally!
