On a Saturday morning of Aug 20, 05 when most of Pittsburgh was fast asleep in their bedrooms, brave and bright brothers and sisters in the Lord came to the Bellefield Presbyterian Church around 8:00 a.m. to help international students and visitors to get free furniture, household items, and free rides to their homes.

The volunteers came from all walks of life and from different churches in the Pittsburgh region to help the Pittsburgh Regional International Student Ministry (PRISM) to be an outreach hand to hundreds of students.

As volunteers were preparing to invite students in groups of 10 to take their favorite furniture with them, hundreds of sleepy eyed international students from all over the world stood in line for their group number to be called to search for furniture and other goody stuff.

The Oakland International Fellowship and Asian Indian Christian Church of Pittsburgh had free snacks, brochures, and literature for the students standing in line. PRISM offered them a gift bag as they left inviting them to a picnic at Flagstaff Hill that evening.

Members of different churches interacted with the new students trying to make them feel comfortable in a foreign land. They also helped students find the right furniture, right household items they needed, and carried it for them. The church rooms and the sanctuary were filled with items students would need

By 11:00 a.m. most of the furniture was completely gone and most stuff from the Sanctuary was being depleted too into large bags to be carried.

PRISM with the help of it supporting cast from churches in the region brought smiles to hundreds of students with their generosity of reaching out to new students. If there was a time Christ’s love and grace was shown freely without expecting anything in return from the students, it was during this day. So many made sacrifices to make their Saturday morning available so they could show them the love of Christ in a tangible way!

You will now be taken to a mini slide show of the free furniture give away with the background song of 'Testify to Love'.
