"Get Smart" (2008)

Picture and source from the site http://www.imdb.com. The movie is rated PG-13 for gun violence, hand to hand combat, and some language!  Run time is 110  minutes!  Now playing in theaters as of  June 20, 2008!

Maincast:
Steve Carell - Maxwell Smart
Anne Hathaway - Agent 99
Dwayne Johnson - Agent 23
Alan Arkin - The Chief

WATCH TRAILER: *"Get Smart"

RECOMMENDATION:
WATCH THE MOVIE !!!

PLOT SYNOPSIS:
'Get Smart' is about CONTROL spy agency's analyst Maxwell Smart
(played by Steve Carell) who is promoted to a field agent to partner with Agent 99 (played by the beautiful Anne Hathaway) to track down the stolen nuclear material possessed by KAOS, the evil spy agency and save lives.

PLOT REVIEW:
"Get Smart" is an action-packed comedy adventure based on the 60's TV series involving two rival spy  agencies of CONTROL v.s. KAOS. The plot was surprisingly very well scripted to keep in line with the original series prompting viewers to want to watch the movie over and over again and revisit the series. It is one of the most recent classic TV series gone into the theatrical screens to be a hit.

CONTENT REVIEW:
'Get Smart' is filled with action violence and comedic statements within the violence that will make you laugh over and over again. It made me laugh more than 275 times within the 110 minutes. It addresses issues such as teamwork, friendship, betrayal, good vs. evil, terrorism, nuclear danger, rescue, and love.

What I liked about the movie: (SPOILER ALERTS)

1. I liked majority of the comedic scenes involving Maxwell Smart (Agent 86), Agent 99, Agent 23, Larabee, Agent 13, the chief, Siegfried, and Starker. The comedic scenes are helpful to our health when they make us laugh.

It reminded me of a Bible verse dealing with a cheerful heart.

"A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones." (Proverbs 14:22, NIV)

2. I liked the teamwork of Agent 86 and Agent 99 and later on the teamwork of both of them with the Chief.

It reminded me of Bible verses on working together.

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, NIV)

"Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (Ecclesiastes 4:12, NIV)

3. I liked the friendship and love that developed between Agent 86 and Agent 99 that reflected in their actions for one another.

It reminded me of Bible verses on friendship and love.

"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity." (Proverbs 17:17, NIV)

"Do not forsake your friend and the friend of your father, and do not go to your brother's house when disaster strikes you— better a neighbor nearby than a brother far away." (Proverbs 27:10, NIV)

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." (1 Corinthians 13:4-8b)

There are many other wonderful moments in the movie that I liked but want you to share with me what you liked under EXPRESS YOUR VIEW.

What I did not like about the movie: (SPOILER ALERT)

I did not like scenes in the movie that had to do with profanity.

"But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips." (Colossians 3:8, NIV)

Questions to Ponder:

1. What did you like the most and least about 'Get Smart' and why?

2. When did you have to work with someone who felt had no experience and what was the outcome? How was that similar or different from what happened in the movie?

3. What value do you place on community and teamwork as opposed to individualism, and why?

4. Why do you think betrayal occurs and have you been on the receiving or giving end of betrayal and what was the outcome? What do we learn about what happens when betrayal comes to the forefront in the movie.

5. When have you trusted someone when the circumstances showed otherwise and what was the outcome? When have you not trusted someone who should have been trusted and what was the outcome?

6. Why do you think there is always a battle between good vs. evil and when do you think good will finally prevail?

7. Why should you trust the Lord Jesus and His instruction manual, the Word of God, no matter what other people try to make you believe and what will be the outcome?
